The widget is able to follow a conversation across different pages (URLs) to keep the conversation going without having to restart a new conversation with a site visitor. Updating the widget settings this way is intended for customer who have their widget turned off to keep the default greeting from showing up.
In this article, we'll go over:
What Settings to Enable
First, check that your widget is enabled in your Admin Settings by going to Settings > Drift Widget and toggle it on if needed, then select "Visitors who have interacted with a playbook during their session." from the Display to pull down.
Setting the widget display condition to "Visitors who have interacted with a playbook during their session" will essentially tell the widget to NOT appear if a visitor has not seen a playbook fire based upon its targeting conditions. This solves the problem of your default greeting showing up unexpectedly on pages that don't have any playbooks and creating a disorganized visitor and chat user experience.
Additional Layer of Conversation Integrity
If you'd like to give site visitors another layer of conversation integrity as they navigate the site, you can also allow them to access their conversation history by toggling it via the Settings > Drift Widget > Advanced and selecting Allow access to conversation history.
With this setting enabled, visitors will be able to view previous conversations they have had when visiting your site. If they navigate to a page where the playbook targeting overrides their previous conversation, they can select the desired conversation from the menu as shown below.
