You may have Drift installed on a domain and want to track your visitors across its subdomains. You can set up your widget to automatically track your visitors across your subdomains for each domain through the use of cookie sharing! This is highly useful for Conversational Landing Pages.
In this doc, we'll cover
- how to add domains for cookie sharing through the Drift web app
- how to manually add subdomains
This feature is available on all Drift plans.
Adding Domains to Your Widget Settings
In order for you to track cookies across domains in which you use Drift on multiple subdomains, head to Settings > Widget> Widget Security or, click here.
Type in your desired domain(s) and click Add domain. You'll see it populate in a list!
If you type in a sub-domain, we'll suggest the domain associated with it for you to add.
You can also delete any of those tracked domains at any time by clicking Delete.
We can track users across the various subdomains of a domain. However, if an identified visitor of one domain goes to another domain upon which you have Drift installed, they will need to be identified there as well.
Manually Adding Subdomains to Track
You can also achieve this manually if you prefer by adding some custom code before the end of your snippet.
Now all subdomains of example.com will use the same cookie to track users. The preceding "." is necessary!
For example, a cookie dropped on "drift.com" won’t transfer to any subdomains, but a cookie dropped on ".drift.com" will transfer to all subdomains of "drift.com."
