As a marketer, you spend so much time and effort getting people to come to your website. Often, once they get there, they're left to find answers on their own or fill out a form to learn more.
The Live View shows you, in real time, who is on your website at any given moment.
Live View is available on any paid Drift plan, starting with Standard.
From the left-hand global nav, click the Live View icon.
Whether it's returning leads or new site visitors, the Drift Live View is a table that changes as people switch pages, come, and go from your site.
You'll see their name (if they've been cookied and identified by Drift before), their current page, their time on site, and their approximate location.
If you'd like to send an outbound message to a site visitor, click Chat.
You'll be able to compose a message to them, as well as see activity details about them, such as their number of conversations.
Live View with Drift Intel
For those who are on the Premium (formerly Company) or Enterprise plan, Drift Intel shows you real-time info you used to have to ask visitors to give you themselves.
See a more detailed company profile like Name, Industry, Employee Count, Revenue, Location, and more in the Live View section!
Select a site visitor to view more Company Information or to chat them directly!
FAQs and Troubleshooting
If somebody already has a campaign delivered to them on the page they're on, will this message override that campaign?
The message you send from the Live View will override an existing message, but will not override a campaign that is already displaying. It will start a separate conversation
What will this message look like to the end user?
Drift will show your message in a message bubble, along with your avatar. Clicking on it will open the chat sidebar.
What things can I filter the Live View table by?
You can use the search boxes on the Live View and filter by...
- current page (URL)
- company (Premium and Enterprise only)
What happens if I send a message and the visitor is already gone by the time I click send?
If they were already identified (IE: they gave their email address or you set the Drift widget to identify them), after 15 minutes they will get the message you sent to them, so long as you have Email Follow Up turned on in your settings.
What happens once I do send a message? Can I view that conversation?
Once you send a message, a new conversation will be created, which you can find in your Conversations view in Drift. We'll leave you on the Live View page so you can fire off a few more messages before responses start rolling in.
Can I see how many conversations each team member has through Live View?
In the conversation section of Drift, users can click the Reports button on the top right hand corner of the page. Then, select the Routing Rules tab and find Direct Message. Here you can pick Live View to see this data.
How do I prevent multiple team members from messaging the same visitor?
If a teammate has messaged a person from the live view, we will hide that end user from the live view for the remainder of that session (30 minutes). The conversation will then live in the Conversations view.
Why might GA and the Live View data look different?
Currently, we do not show users in live view who haven't been focused on the tab for at least 5 minutes. We also do not show users in live view if they are active in a conversation in a current session (until page reload).
